The 3 Buzziest Makeup Trends You Have to Try, According to a Celebrity Makeup Artist

Between the red carpet, the runway, and Instagram, certain makeup trends have a way of getting mainstream attention as fast as a certain reality TV family. This season alone we've seen face glossglitter brows, and rainbow eye shadow — and it's only June. And while we love experimenting with a crazy makeup trend every once in a while, it's the ones with true staying power we're interested in. We caught up with celebrity makeup artist Lisa Aharon, who boasts a roster of high-profile clients from franchise actresses to first-name-only pop singers, to help us cull through the trends that should not only be on our radar, but that we should also actually wear — realistically, of course. Keep reading to discover the three makeup looks and get Aharon's take on how to rock them.
1- Spider lashes

"Right now, there's a combination of a '60s eyelash mixed in with a '90s goth moment," Aharon said. "You're seeing eyelashes as a focal point but with a more modern take."
While the spider lash look is popular among British socialites, indie actresses, and swimsuit models, Aharon noted that it's still totally possible to re-create the effect for yourself using a mascara with a spider spike brush.
The key, however, is to keep the focus on the lashes and not overdo the rest of your face. "The most I'd do with a lash like this is a classic matte red lip — nothing too shiny," Aharon said. "I'd let the lashes be the main focus of the face and keep the rest of it very monochromatic and simple so that they really stand out."
She recommends incorporating a taupe-y contour around the eye to really make them pop and to give them a little bit more dimension. "Make sure to blend a lighter color in the center of the lid so that the lashes contrast as much as possible — you can see the [grouped lashes] a lot more with a lighter color behind it."

2-Dewy skin

Dewy skin isn't just popular on Instagram — according to Aharon, the one trend request she receives the most from her high-profile clients is a healthy glow. "People want to look healthy, glow-y, and dewy."
Aharon was quick to note that while half the battle of achieving a glow is healthy skin to begin with, achieving that coveted effect is still attainable. "Try using an illuminating primer first or adding a little to your foundation. Just make sure to lightly powder around the nose and forehead so it stays subtle."

3- Purple lips

"There are a lot of people playing with darker purple and brown versus vampy red," Aharon said. Similar to the spider lash trend, it's important to let the lips do all the talking if you want a street-appropriate look.
"When choosing a purple lipstick, steer clear of shades with too much blue in them. It can really wash out the rest of your skin tone. Finish the look with a hint of blush and a simple eye. Purple lips look best as the single focus."
