DIY SUPER HYDRATING ORANGEY LIP BALM

Winter means cold dry air and bad news for lips! Having a good lip balm is a must if you going to avoid uncomfortable chapped lips! I love to make my own using natural ingredients that do a great job hydrating! All the usual suspects are here, shea, coconut oil, and beeswax. But you will also get added benefits of moisturizing jojoba and apricot kernel oil! You can feel good about what you’re using because you made it and therefore know what’s in it! Plus, each of these ingredients can be useful for so many other DIY beauty projects. I used orange essential oil to give this lip balm some flavor and decorated the tins using paint pens. They turned out adorable and will be great for gifts or stocking stuffers! Let’s get our make on!

SUPPLIES

  • 1 Tablespoon beeswax
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 Tablespoon jojoba oil
  • 1/2 Tablespoon apricot kernel oil
  • 2 Tablespoons raw shea butter
  • 6-8 Drops of sweet orange essential oil
  • Small glass bowl that will sit halfway over the saucepan.
  • Small saucepan to use as a double boiler
  • Water for boiling
  • Lip tins
  • Black and red paint pens
*NOTE: Citrus essential oils can cause sensitivity to sunlight. You can easily swap out orange for peppermint or lavender in this recipe.
Step one: Boil about a cup of water in the saucepan and place the glass bowl over the water. Don’t let the water and the bowl touch.
Step two: Add all the ingredients to the bowl and melt. Stir frequently.
Step three: Once ingredients are melted wearing an oven glove remove the bowl from the pot and pour the melted ingredients into the lip tins.
Step four: Let the lip balm cool overnight.
Step five: Decorate the lids of the tins using the paint pens!
